Separation Anxiety

Y'all will probably laugh at me for this post and think I'm more crazy than you thought, but maybe a few of you can relate.

I have MAJOR separation anxiety going on right now. I leave for Atlanta on Thursday, and Doug joins me next Tuesday. That means, Maisy and Pep will be here. Without us. Cue the hysterics.

This is my first time leaving them with anyone besides our parents. Luckily, our neighbors are just about the nicest people you'll ever meet, and they are taking care of our babies. But still, I am a mess over this!

Maisy has what they call an "emotional stomach" (it's common with boxers) and if she gets upset emotionally, it makes her sick to her stomach. When we first adopted her, she was in a new place with new people, and she was sick for the first few days. When I came back from our first trip to California, she was SO EXCITED to see me....then I went out to a movie later that night, leaving her for a couple hours, and we came back to one sick puppy. She thought I was leaving her again.
So I am terrified that this will happen while we're gone. I've imagined basically anything that could go wrong, and that's definitely not helping my nerves!

Thankfully, my sweet neighbor said I could call everyday to check on them :)

Lord help me when I actually have human children! Those poor kids will never leave my side!

  1. They are your babies!!!! You are not crazy. Trust me.. I get sad being away from Jax for 8hrs...lol.

At least they are in good hands :)

  2. I get very nervous leaving Jack and he is SEVEN. He is just so little that I'm afraid someone will step on him or that he will slip out the door. I'm glad you found someone to watch Maisy and Pep...that makes it easier not having to board them! I'm sure they will do great, but they will be so excited to see you when you get back!

  6. Aww. I am the same way with our dog. She is my baby. Try to remember that she will be in good hands! Have them send you videos of them... my best friend from college does that for us when she watches her.

  7. Aww I feel that! Being away from pets is rough. You should see if you can Skype with them :)

  8. This breaks my heart Julie! I would absolutely DIE if I had to leave Doc for that long! On the bright side, your photo shoot with Maisy is pretty much the cutest thing ever. P.S. I'm going to be in Loganville this weekend, what are your plans for Sunday? We should try to meet up halfway or something!

  9. Awwww, I totally have anxiety when I leave my babies, too!! The whole time we were in Jamaica I just kept thinking, what if something happens to one of them? Surely someone would call me emergently in Jamaica? RIGHT?? Hahahaha. Our little sweet babies are so lucky to have us to love them and obsess over them!!

  10. I know EXACTLY how you feel! I know everyone must think I'm crazy (and sometimes I even wonder whether I'm crazy), but I hate to leave my dog! We don't have any family nearby, so she stays at the "pet resort" (the one with all the "bells and whistles" of course!). I call there almost daily to check on her!

  12. Awww, Julie!! You are such a great momma to your lucky pets! I completely understand why you have separation anxiety, though!

  13. well you can pretty much guess what I'm going to say here -- of COURSE you're going to miss them! They will miss you too but they will be SO happy to see you when you get back. Dogs (and cats) are so loyal that way, they will be wagging their tails the minute you come in the door, no matter how long it's been :)

    Love,
    Heather (and Jack)
