California Home: Backyard

Our backyard was in pretty good shape when we moved in, but we still made a few easy changes. There's a border around the entire yard that looked like this:

So we just added mulch and now it looks much more complete!

I also added a ton of plants. This is Rosie. Yes, I name my plants. It encourages me to keep them alive :)

I also added some string lights. It's my favorite thing out there now!

(I forgot to water my plants when my family was here, so the flowers in the flower box are a little dead right now)

Our new fire pit has already made us lots of s'mores!

My first and only purchase from Anthropologie so far- this adorable salt and pepper set. It was actually a gift from my mom....thanks, Mom!

I got the patio set (Target) and pillows (Walmart) on clearance at the end of last summer.

And my other favorite thing in the yard- our orange tree! We give all of our visitors a big bag of oranges...there are just too many for us to eat!

So last weekend, we made fresh orange juice!

Right before we moved in, our landlords planted a lemon and a lime tree and they are starting to come in! So y'all come on over and we will serve you all kinds of fresh juices (and margaritas!) :)

  10. And I realize that appreciate sounds odd, but it's meant in the sense like when you can truly appreciate something beautiful...does that make sense? Don't mind me lol

  11. We name our plants, too. Since my husband lives in a house with four females (including the two dogs) he insisted that all of our house plants be boys. So they all have masculine names.

Your backyard seems like a dream to me. The lights, the flowers, the oranges?! Maybe I should move out to Cali and pitch a tent in your backyard. I would love to kick it with Maisy! :)

  32. I wish I had a green thumb, but when I touch a plant- it dies. I don't like to murder poor defenseless plants, so I leave them alone...
