No Place Like Home

Here are the highlights of my trip home... (I was a terrible blogger and didn't take a single picture of any person...mostly just food and pets :)

When my mom asked me what all I wanted to do while I was home, all I could come up with were restaurants I want to go to. So we made a schedule of our meals for the week....what can I say, we like to eat!

The Swan House was definitely at the top of the list. It's a historic mansion/restaurant in Atlanta where my mom actually had her bridesmaids luncheon way back when! There is also a great book about it, too.

We both ordered their famous dish- Swan's Favorite. The BEST chicken salad served in timbales, cheese straws, and frozen fruit salad. And extra mayo on the side...welcome to the South!

The dining room is gorgeous and so girly, with fresh roses on every table.

We saw this guy on the road- with 2 COCKATOOS in his car and his window rolled down! Can you see the bird on the wheel and the other on his shoulder? Hilarious!

We did a little shopping, and I found these adorable flats!

We saw Wicked at the Fox Theatre, but I didn't take any pictures! The tickets were my present to Mom for her birthday...I splurged and got front row seats in the balcony! We decided it's worth the extra money to have a perfect view...and Wicked never disappoints!

I took lots of pictures of Lily
And when she was tired of the camera, so she took her little paw and covered her eyes...how cute is this picture?!

Charlie LOVES to get up on my dad's shoulders. He just wraps himself around his neck and hangs out while Dad walks around.

At lunch, I picked up my glass to find this smiling at me

Mom and I tried our first Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. We took one sip of it and threw it away. Yuck.

We decided one night to have Menchie's for dinner after we finished shopping. We realized it was meant to be when we drove past a Menchie's, saw balloons outside, and found out that it was a Grand Opening and everything was free!

I Facetimed with my sweet puppy (and husband :)

We also decided to redo my parents' basement, since it flooded a few weeks ago. It never really had a color scheme and the walls were a very boring off-white. We found this pillow as our inspiration.

I really wish I had before photos, but you'll just have to imagine a dull, boring room. This is what it looks like now.

The side tables were an ugly reddish wood, so a couple cans of spray paint did the trick to tone them down.

We went with a retro/vintage feel for the game room!

Our favorite piece!

The caricature wall. See the one on the top? Funny story...that's from when my mom was hit by a car. I guess I need to explain now.
Several years ago, we were walking to our car after lunch in the parking lot when a girl hits my mom with her car. We were shocked. There were 4 of us walking, so it's not like she didn't see us. We were pretty mad, especially since the girl had an attitude and acted like it was no big deal. We ask her to pull over, then she speeds out of the parking lot. Luckily, we got her license plate number so we call the police and he meets us there. He asks us to describe the girl when a man comes up and says, "will this help?" Turns out a caricature artist was a witness to it! He saw the whole thing happen and then drew a picture for us :)
The end of this story is pretty annoying though- the girl had a Tennessee license plate, so they couldn't do anything about it. Isn't that ridiculous!? You do a hit and run, but since you live in a different state, you get away with it!?
But the picture makes us laugh every time we see it!

Our family friends, The Engle's, made us a personalized Scrabble board.

Well that's it....congratulations if you are still reading!

That sounds like a wonderful trip home! I REALLY want to go to Swan House now! It looks beautiful and the food looks delicious! I cannot believe that guy was driving around with his birds and the windows open!

The basement looks great! The Scrabble board is such a great idea! Although it's frustrating and a little scary, the story about the hit-and-run is really funny! I got hit by a car a couple years ago, too! I will blog about it sometime soon.

I'm glad you had a good time back home! :)

We had a sorority senior brunch at the swan coach house. I remember the chicken salad and the frozen fruit salad. It was a yummy yummy brunch.

And I'm so glad that you don't like the Pumpkin Spice Lattes either. I didn't like it at all when I first had it, but everyone was so excited about it I thought I must have tasted it wrong or something...

Whenever I go home, my first thing to do is plan out where I want to eat! Oh, and I Face Time/Skype with my dog also. :-)

So glad you had a great trip!!!

I am also glad to find other people out there who don't rave about the pumpkin spice lattes. I thought something was wrong with me. But I do love the Salted Caramel Mocha. You must try one if you haven't! :)
